Fantastic Four (also abbreviated as FQ, F4, English Fantastic Four statements also in FF) are a group of comic book superheroes created by Stan Lee (lyrics) and Jack Kirby (drawings), published by Marvel Comics. They appeared for the first time in Fantastic Four n. 1 (November 1961).
The Fantastic Four are the first group of superheroes created by writer and editor Stan Lee and artist and co-writer Jack Kirby, who developed a collaborative approach in the creation of comic books with this title that will use from then on. As the first superhero team published and produced by Marvel Comics, formed a basis for the development of the company in the sixties by small division of a publishing company to a conglomerate of popular culture. The head will participate comics authors like Roy Thomas, John Byrne, Steve Englehart, Walt Simonson, John Buscema, George Perez and Tom DeFalco, and is one of several major Marvel titles still in publication since the Silver Age.
The four main individuals traditionally associated with the Fantastic Four, who gained their powers after exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific space mission, are: Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards), a scientific genius and leader of the group, who can stretch his body to incredible lengths and shapes; the Invisible Woman (Susan "Sue" Storm), Reed's wife, who can make herself and others invisible and create force fields powerful; The Human Torch (Johnny Storm), Sue's younger brother, who can generate flames and fly; and the monstrous and huge What (Ben Grimm), grumpy but benevolent friend, who possesses superhuman strength and endurance due to the nature of its rocky skin.
Since the introduction in 1961 of the original quartet, the Fantastic Four have been portrayed as a somewhat dysfunctional but loving family, the first family in the history of superheroes. Breaking the convention with other comic book archetypes of the time, quarrel and bring grudges both deep and of little importance, and avoid the anonymity or secret identities in favor of a celebrity status. The group is also well known for clashes with recurring characters such as the villainous monarch Doctor Doom, the fierce devourer Galactus to planets, Prince Namor of the seas, the traveler of the Silver Surfer and space aliens shapeshifting Skrulls.
The Fantastic Four have been adapted several times in other media: Four animated series, a low-budget film (1994), and three other films, The Fantastic 4 (2005), Fantastic 4 and Silver Surfer (2007) Fantastic 4 - Fantastic Four (2015).
